2008-06/22.

President’s Message July, 2008

I am submitting the President’s message a little early this month since I will be out of town at the end of June and start of July.

First I want to alert everyone to our upcoming event at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) Planetarium on Friday, July 19 from 1 PM to 4:45 pm==PM. Please join us in celebrating our annual Apollo 11 Anniversary Event with an information table and planetarium shows. The regular public showings are at 1 PM (“Astronaut”) and 2:30 PM (“Stars of the Pharaohs”) which will be at regular published prices (unless we get a group of 10 or more). At 3:30 PM we will have a special showing of “Time Space”, a new show that will not be premiering with the public until Fall. This will have the special price of $3 per person (if we have at least 10 people). I have invited our friends at the Mars Society to participate. Please extend invitations to other organizations you think might be interested.

For those of you who were not able to attend the June Meeting, I am very please to announce that our Chapter received the 2008 Chapter of the Year Chapter Excellence Award at International Space Development Conference (ISDC) in Washington. D.C. Thanks to all of our members who worked on the ISDC 2007 and all of our public events in 2007-2007. This award belongs to all of you.

The latest Space Shuttle mission has completed successfully after installing the Japanese Experiment Module on the International Sp[ace Station. Congratulations to the STS-124 crew and all who support them. The Mars Phoenix Mission has announced that they have indeed found water ice at their landing sight near the North Pole of Mars. We look forward to more results as the Mars Phoenix mission continues.

At the July meeting, we will be discussing the upcoming Planetarium Event and other topics. I hope you are able to attend.

Ad Astra, Carol Johnson 6/22/08
